Casper has been with us since 04/19/2023 at only five months old and 19 pounds. He was found in the back corner of 500 acres covered from head to tail in mud and fleas. Two young men found him and brought him to us.  After a long bath, lots of water, and some snuggles, we found that he was too weak to even walk and noticed his eyes were slightly deformed. We later took him to the vet and found that he was blind, deaf, and had a broken radius on his right foot. We showered him with love, toys, blankets, large beds, and long hours picking fleas from his skin. It wasn't until months later he started to play and act like a dog for the first time in his life. He is curious, confident, courageous, intelligent, loving, and absolutely hysterical. Above all though, he is lonely. He plays wonderfully with other dogs and loves relaxing with them. Casper never lets his disabilities or shortcomings slow him down, he doesn't need pity, only love.  We hope and pray that one day someone will offer him the life he deserves and will love him as unconditionally as we all do. Casper will need a special family to adopt him. The family will be patient and willing to spend all of the necessary time with him to make him a happy forever home.

History of the Humane Society of Kerrville

      Our Story

The Humane Society of Kerrville was founded by nine ladies in 1985 who each put in $100 to help stray and injured animals. In 1989, they rented an old vet clinic (our prior shelter across from Wal-Mart on Junction Hwy) to house animals and provide grooming and boarding. One of the charter members later purchased the building and allowed the Humane Society to use it until her death, when it was left to the Humane Society.

In 1997, the Humane Society opened a resale shop to provide additional income for the Society. In 2002, through the generosity of the Kathleen C. Cailloux Family Trust and the Cailloux Family, the Society moved into new quarters at 2900 Junction Hwy in Kerrville.

Our Shelter is a no-kill facility, so many times we are full and cannot accept new animals.
